Hey, we had a great time on our teleseminar last night telling
you about marketing and why to NOT stop marketing in a down market.

Here are 3 of the 7 reasons why to not stop marketing during a
down market:

1. Loss of Short Term Sales
Customers and prospects will not know you are there – you are
not getting your name out to cover any new sales which could be
happening.

2. Loss of long term Sales
Customers may stay with you and pay you for your products and /or
services for the short term and it looks like everything is going
well in the business, but if you are not continually marketing and
getting new clients into your customer base, then eventually your
customer base will decrease and you will lose long term sales.

3. Loss of TOMA (Top of Mind Awareness)
Definition of TOMA is Top of Mind Awareness – for example, when I
ask you what the name of a favorite soft drink is, you would probably
answer Coke or Pepsi. That is because Coke and Pepsi are constantly
running commercials so that you buy their product and more of their
product. If you are not a national company, you can have top of mind
awareness in your own community by constantly marketing into it – for
example, word of mouth, advertising in the newspapers, advertising in
restaurants on their placemats, and putting business cards or brochures
in businesses around the community.

Listen to our audio to learn the next 4 reasons as to why you don’t want
to stop marketing in a down market! (and more…)

Our teleseminar will be on audio soon and we will send you a link to access
it. There’s more detail on the audio,so don’t miss it!

Enhance your marketing strategy with these great tips. You can
breathe new life into your business today! Read on to find out
more. Here are some great tips to stay ahead in the marketing race.

a. Article marketing: This is one of the best ways to propagate and
promote your business very fast. If you are good at writing, you can
do the copywriting work by yourself. Else you can always outsource this
activity to a third part service provider. By having great articles
and web copy you can attract plenty of customers in short durations.

b. Blogs: Blogs can help establish you as a subject matter expert and
also earn you good revenue by way of ads. By having a theme based blog,
you can avail a variety of sponsors who will be willing to advertise on
your site. Without doing anything you can earn a good income each month.

c. Press releases: Press releases are great ways to create a buzz and
highlight your business online. Just look for an interesting topic
centered on your product. Then create a suitable press release around
this concept. You can circulate the release to virtually thousands of
sites.

d. SEO: SEO or Search Engine Optimization is one of the most important
things to carry out if you want your website to be noticed. Try using
the right set of keywords which are popular, optimize Meta and Title
tags and keep your site search engine friendly overall.

e. Link building: The more the number of links on your site, the better
your chances at good page ranking. However the key to success isn’t just
in the quantity of links but also in the quality. You need to have high
quality, relevant links as opposed to random links from link farms etc.

f. Newsletters: Newsletters are a great way to get customers involved and
interested in your business and products. It also helps to keep brand recall
alive because you will be sending out the newsletter every week or fortnight.
Make sure to include an unsubscribe option as well.

g. Freebies: Try giving away free items which have your brand logo and contact
details on them. From things like mugs, t-shirts to car stickers, you can even
send calendars with your brand details on them. This way, customers are more
likely to remember your business and they’ll also be happy they are getting
something for free.

h. Sales letters: If you are planning on launching a product soon, consider
sending out sales letters beforehand. These need to be very interesting with
attention-grabbing sales copy. This way, you can expect to create a substantial
amount of curiosity and interest in the minds of customers.

i. Webcasts and videos: If you have given a seminar recently on a product or
service offering, you can record the details and post it on your website. There
is plenty of free software which allows you to accomplish this. By doing this you
can get more customers to watch your Webcasts and videos – thereby getting you more
online traffic.

j. Affiliate marketing: Hire the services of trained and qualified affiliate
marketers to promote your products for you. Since you pay only when a sale happens,
it helps you gain more revenues online. Didn’t think all this was possible? Think
again! These tips can make a big difference for your business. Don’t be left behind
in the business race. Get ahead and stay ahead!

We had some great questions on our teleclass - some that
we have not addressed in our previous emails.

Let’s address this one: How can I know the best ways to generate
leads on the internet?

There are 4 main ways to do this -

1. Google Adwords
This is still the best and fastest way to generate leads
on the internet, though it takes some work to set it up…

The first thing to do with Adwords is to get relevant
keywords. You can do this through the Google Adwords
Keywords Tool, Wordtracker and looking at who your
competition is and the keywords that they use. Next,
create your ads - create 4 for each campaign to begin
with. Look at the Google ads on the right hand side of
the first search pageas a guide to your ads.

2. Articles and PR
There are 5 parts to an article:
a) Title
b) Summary
c) Article Content
d) Author Resource (remember to have 2 links to
your website in this part)

You can write your own articles or outsource them. There
are a few good sites to submit to, including EzineArticles.com,
ArticleMarketer.com, Buzzle.com and ArticleDashboard.com

Note: ArticleMarketer submits to thousands of other
sites.

3. Joint ventures
This is all about creating relationships. It is about
getting in touch with other internet marketers and doing
whatever it takes to get them to promote your products.

4. Social Bookmarking
Some of the most poular sites are MySpace, LinkedIn,
Ryze and ecademy.

For forums, look in Google Search for your niche and
search for “(your niche) forums”.

Our teleseminar will be on audio soon and we will send
you a link to access it. There’s more detail on the audio,
so don’t miss it!

Didn’t get to ask your question? Still would like your
question answered? Email us at team@whatisyourplan.com
and we’ll write you back.

Once your e-book is published, the next step would be to work
on marketing the e-book. The thing to remember is that most of
the audience for your e-books is online. This makes internet
one of your primary marketing tools. And if not used effectively,
this would severely impair the readership figures.

E-book promotion techniques vary prom one publisher to another.
However, there are certain techniques that have proven their worth
over time. And what is more, you can work on them with some help,
yourself!

1. Create a website for yourself or your e-book One of the first
things you can do, is create a website for your e-book. The site
can contain information readers would be interested in. For E.g.:
Information about the author, the synopsis of the book, key
characters, reference material etc. Moreover, the website will not
only help you promote your e-book but can be used as an online sales
tool to boost your sales figures.

2. Monthly newsletters Send out monthly newsletters to your prospective
readers keeping them abreast of your work including upcoming e-books,
launch dates, online readings, groups and forums etc. This will keep the
readers updated on your work.

3. Create an online blog for your e-book You can go to the book reader’s
blogging websites and register yourself to create exclusive blogs about
your book. Here you can regularly post information about your books and
invite responses. Further, you can have link-backs to your e-book website
as well.

4. Reciprocal links Find author who write on similar subjects or
complimenting subjects and request a mutually beneficial promotional
technique using reciprocal links. Some websites are created specifically
for this purpose itself.

5. Online advertising Make use of traditional online advertising techniques.
Promote your e-book on paid websites or for free. There are plenty of websites
relating to books on the subject of your choice which will be happy to cater
to your requirements. You can write an publish your own press releases for your
e-book and post them on free press release websites will also help increase
visibility.

6. Tie up with online book stores One of the best ways to promote your e-book
is to tie up with various online bookstores. Here, you can allow the readers a
sneak-peak into your e-book and encourage them to purchase it. You can have
further link-backs to your own website as well.

7. Get yourself listed on Google Ad-words One of the other ways to promote your
e-book is through Google Ad-words. It is one of the most widely used search
engines in the world. You can also get listed on a special search called
‘Google Books’.

In this day and age, contemporary book publishing is no longer restricted
to hard copies. A lot of writers find it easier to have e-books published.
Many publishing houses have sprung up online to review and publish e-books.
Established writers have both hard copies and e-books published by their
publishers. If you are a fairly new writer, and are finding it hard to get
a break, e-books are the easiest way to get published.

That’s INSANE - A dollar saved is eaten away by inflation every
second!

This year (2008) food, eggs and milk alone have gone up
between 15% and 30%. Food lines are up nationwide by 10 -25%
Gasoline prices, home loans…Do I need to say more??????

On the other hand, a dollar earned is getting one ahead -
It is ahead of inflation.

So “What has this to do with my business?”
you ask. If you focus on savings you and your business will end
up broke or lower middle class at best - that’s right - if you
focus on savings you and your business will end up broke or
lower middle class at best, no one ever made it to being financially
free by saving, they made it by investing. You can’t save enough to
beat inflation.

Savings is focusing on squandering. You cannot grow if you squander.

Earning is focusing on growing which focuses on abundance. You will
grow if you FOCUS ON ABUNDANCE. Savings is slow. Earning money is
faster; savings do not compound by more than 5% per year and inflation
was more than that in 2007. Don’t pull back, push forward; don’t be
foolish with your money but invest in yourself and in your business.

Your ability to make more is in your ability to be more and that only
comes with investing and growth.

Today I had a conversation with a small business owner who realized
$7000 in profit in his pocket in one month by coaching with me.
I was amazed -he will not spend $1500 for additional profit
potential because, as he says, he is saving $50 per day.

Really??????

Does getting 5% interest on $1500 make sense???? - Or - Does getting
$7K on a $1500 investment make sense to you??? If you gave me $1500
and I gave you $7000 how long will you keep doing that?

See, he is focused on savings not investing…

I can predict his future, which is he will not grow unless he changes
his thoughts - he can’t. The law of compounding is working against
him, not FOR him - so don’t pull back, PUSH FORWARD. Do not get caught up
in the media nonsense about how you should be pulling back.

These are the same sensationalist who told you to buy negative
amortization mortgages - these are the same people that several years
from now will tell you how great the economy is getting and that you
should have invested in real estate during the low times (which is now).

Now if real estate is not your thing that is fine but invest in something
like developing your mind and your business skill sets especially when
times are low. It is the only way out of it. The same level of thinking
that creates the scarcity never solves the problem created with that
scarcity level of thinking.

Ok I am done with my rant… Don’t pull back PUSH FORWARD!

To Your Success!

There are marketing strategies that you can use without burning a hole in
your wallet. Yes, these are economical and affordable! Whether you have a
small budget or no budget, these methods actually work! Why don’t you try
some of these tactics yourself?

a. Word of mouth: This has been an age old marketing tactic which is valid
even today. It is also one of the most effective ways to propagate one’s
business. The word of mouth tactic is a great way to spread the word about
your business from one person to another. As you find more and more people
getting to know your business, you’ll find that more traffic is visiting your
site by the day. The best thing about this tactic is that it doesn’t cost you
a dime!

b. Controversies: Love them or hate them but you can’t ignore them! If you
ever saw some of the most popular celebrities you’ll know why they stay in
the limelight. You can use this tactic to generate tremendous publicity for
your business. With controversial products or comments you can hope to remain
in the spotlight for quite some time to come! The idea is to create a stir
and shock value for your customers.

c. Giving out freebies: Another age old trick which many businesses have
used to increase their business is by giving away freebies to customers.
From mugs to T-shirts to bags to free information - all carry your brand
with them! Make sure you have your website URL and contact details on these
items. You can add freebies or free bonuses to your autoresponder emails.
You can increase your database of customer contacts and send them promotional
materials for future campaigns as well.

d. Columnist: If you notice, most of the top entrepreneurs always have
something to talk about. You could be a regular columnist in a newspaper or
magazine that deals with your unique niche. Try sticking to topics which are
directly related to your own business. Once you start churning out content on
a regular basis, you can expect to start being perceived as a subject matter
expert. This will also establish a credibility and authority to your business.

e. Emotional content: No one likes to read pages of text with no relevance to
their daily lives. So if you are writing an article or some promotional material
for your business, make sure the content is on an emotional level. That way people
can relate to it, get interested in the product and ultimately buy it. If you
observe, all of the best advertising materials have an emotional connection
somewhere or the other.

f. Blogs: Your blog is much more than just a personal diary online. It is a
dynamic, thriving potentially lucrative business revenue earner. Therefore,
populate it with content that will do your business good. Make sure to write on
topics that revolve around the central theme of your blog. Then try searching for
sponsors who have similar products. This way you can propagate your business more
effectively.

Yes, small businesses can succeed! The success of your business depends
not on its size but in the quality of its execution and implementation.
Here are some common mistakes business owners make and how you can avoid
them.

a. Focusing on tertiary work: Many small business owners are so
overwhelmed with non-critical work that they have very little time left
for strategic, more important business decisions. It is far more
important not to get bogged down by the little, trivial details of
everyday business. Instead, you need to stay focused on your core
competencies and drive the business forward. If you are understaffed
consider outsourcing all non-core work.

b. Not making an honest assessment: Most small business owners don’t know
what’s happening in their own business. They mostly presume they know it,
but fact is they are never really on top of things. It is essential to
honestly evaluate the current state of your business. Take an employee-wide
survey or ask your subordinates and colleagues for honest feedback. This
will provide a much needed honest assessment of the current situation in the
company.

c. Not setting timelines: Most meetings go by without end objectives being
met. The reason for laying down a plan and conducting meetings is to ensure
each responsibility is implemented within the timeframe. Therefore set
realistic goals and set timelines to each plan. Delegate work according to
skill sets. This will also ensure all employees are happy in their
responsibilities and job skills.

d. Not performing follow-ups: A crucial determinant of success is how much
you follow-up and ensure implementation. It is necessary to follow-up and to
ensure all tasks assigned are completed within time. Else the plan just remains
open ended with no near end to completion. So ensure to keep reminding and
asking your subordinates on the plan at hand. If you can’t, delegate the
responsibility to someone else.

e. Investing more on technology vs. people: One big mistake small business
owners make is to invest heavily on new technology as opposed to their own
employees. It is a company’s employees who drive the business forward and get
new customers and contacts. herefore it makes perfect business sense to invest
more in people.

f. Not remunerating yourself well: Most small business owners multitask a lot.
It could be because of a shortage of capital, lack of resources etc. However,
whatever the reason, when it’s pay time, ensure you remunerate yourself
according to whatever effort you have put in. Most business owners undervalue
themselves and end up getting paid less. Don’t make this mistake. Pay yourself
well, that way you will stay motivated too.

g. Work life balance in jeopardy: Most CEOs of successful Fortune 500 companies
have a happy, family support system behind them. If you want your business to
flourish, make sure not to compromise on your personal life. Take care to balance
out work and family time. By seeing to a holistic balance, you can enhance your
business growth in a short time.

Now that you know the mistakes, take active steps to avoid making these mistakes.
These are common pitfalls that business owners fall into. So take note and stay
away from these!

It is very important that everyone involved in your business
from the very top to the bottom of the chain knows exactly
what is going on in your business. A business is team and you
need everyone on your team working towards the same goal.

Before you can teach your team about the business plan, you
need to know it yourself. Once you are well informed of your
business plan and the strategy and tactics you plan to use to
get there, you can form excellent, dependable business clarity
that will permeate throughout your business.

A business that starts off with clear and focused goals and plans
and a strategy to reach those goals will be much more successful
than those businesses without this. You need all members of your
team moving in the same direction and working towards a common goal.

The only way to truly do this is with business clarity. While it may
sound easy in writing, most people find that the hardest task they
will face in their business is properly defining their purpose but
this is a necessity to finding clarity.

Studies have shown that there is a direct link between clarity and
success. You must know what you are working toward if you are ever
to expect to get there. The more clarity you have, the more profit
you can expect to see coming in to your business.

Defining business clarity should be a daily activity for you in your
business. You need to dedicate some time each day to study and evaluate
where your business is coming from, how you are growing and what new trends
are taking place in the marketplace. Often, your market will change and
you will need to adjust and make changes with it to remain profitable but
all too often business owners fail to see this until it is too late.

What are some ways that you can maintain this business clarity throughout
your organization? Remember that first and foremost, it always needs to begin
at the top. You need to have a crystal clear picture of what you are doing
and why before you can expect the rest of your business associates and
employees and staff to do the same. Once you have this image clearly defined
in your own head, you will need to move on to the next step: forming a plan
to get there.

When you have this clear plan laid out on how to get to your goals, you will
need to define each person’s role in that plan and then your briefing and
training will need to begin from the top and work its way down. There should
be clear instructions for what is expected of each individual and their role
within your business, this way there is no confusion later about the focus of
the business.

When you have business clarity in your business, everyone will see the same
focus as you when it comes to the future and success of the business. This is
how businesses become and remain successful.
